*2016-12 CENSUS DATA HIGHLIGHTS FROM D. KRAIKER*

***********

*ACS 5-YEAR 2011-2015 DATA RELEASE.* Please note that last week
(8-Dec-2016) the Census Bureau released 5-year ACS data. This data is an
average of information over 5 years moving back in time from and
including 2015. The ACS is the most relied-on source for up-to-date
social, economic, and housing information every year. As always, I
recommend using data only down to the tract level; below those
geographies, the margin of errors rise greatly.

*NEW 5-YEAR COMPARISON PROFILES.* 5-year Comparison Profiles are available
for the first time. These tables compare the 2011-2015 ACS 5-year
estimates with the most recent non-overlapping ACS 5-year estimates and
indicate statistically significant differences between the datasets. Take
note that this information is available down to the county level, but
usually no lower. When looking for this data in American Fact Finder
(AFF), you can look for CP02, CP03, CP04 and CP05 tables. If you select
below the county level, the tables will not appear.

*AMERICAN FACTFINDER.* It can be accessed at www.factfinder.census.gov and
is the best place to drill down and craft your area of selection.

Good luck!

*WEBINAR VIGNETTE "REFRESHERS".* Many of you have attended my webinars,
had me do live presentations, or met colleagues of mine who have passed
your names to me. It is quite easy to forget how to use American
Factfinder. If you have forgotten how to get into AFF and use it to find
data, please watch my webinar vignettes (5 of them). The links to those
are within this email.

*WEBINAR SERIES.* Take note that the Census Bureau offers a few webinars
each month. The site to the classes is here:
https://www.census.gov/mso/www/training/

Sometime beginning in February, the Data Dissemination ("Outreach")
Specialists for the Census Bureau will begin a very robust run of webinars,
usually offering one or two a day over a 6-week period. It will be
required to register for those unique webinars. You may want to keep your
eye on the site. When the event is launched, I will send a follow-up
email to you all.
