Just another reminder to the GIS community that this weekend MEGIS will
begin removal of our old ArcIMS-based infrastructure. The following
services and sites will be removed:
any site or service with "megisims.state.me.us" in the URL
The 'old' aerial photography viewer
The 'old' basemap viewer
Any IMS-based web services (such as orthoimagery services)
The IMS-based WMS Framework
These have all been replaced with newer technology including
A new aerial photography viewer (http://megis.maine.gov/maps)
A new basemap viewer (available by Friday, same URL)
New WMS services for orthoimagery (all with "mapserver.maine.gov" in the
URL, complete list at http://www.maine.gov/geolib/wms.htm)
This is an important change which will save MEGIS over $100K per year in
data hosting charges, allowing us to provide more geo-services while
consuming less revenue, and to retire a now-outdated technology with
limited vendor support.
There is one IMS-based application which will linger for a few more
weeks, the 'wetlands characterization' site, whose replacement is almost
ready to deploy. It is the only exception.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
