Nine month academic year, full-time, (initial appointment year will be January 1, 2011 - mid May 2011 with recurring years being mid August - mid May)
 
A highly motivated and creative person is sought to fill this position based in USM's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Lab, housed in the Department of Geography-Anthropology. Responsibilities will include: day to day operation of the facility; maintain the lab, and provide technical support for teaching and research work. Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's degree in geography, anthropology or related discipline, such as planning, environmental science and policy, or geosciences and 3 years related experience; demonstrated familiarity with installing, operating and maintaining GIS, remote sensing, and computer drawing software, such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, Quantum GIS, GRASS, IDRISI, ERDAS IMAGINE, ENVI, and Trimble Pathfinder Office or similar GPS software; demonstrated familiarity with installing, operating, and maintaining GPS software and hardware; experience with, or willingness to learn, Windows XP and 7 desktop and server versions, Mac OS X, UNIX or GNU/Linux, Novell, and server maintenance as required by facility development; must be able to work effectively individually and in a team environment. Position requires use of personal and University vehicles, and office and communications technology equipment.
