The City of Portland is seeking applications for a GIS Mapping Technician
in the Department of Public Works.

*GIS Mapping Technician*
Public Works Department-Engineering Division
Public Works Department – Engineering – schedule is Monday through Friday –
Work involves skilled and technical work in the office and in the field to
survey map and interpret various public infrastructure, land and parcel
features to support Public Works projects, GIS and other City function. Job
duties include performing field and survey work and documenting results;
create and maintain mapping information to document critical public
infrastructure conditions and land & parcel features; incorporating
advanced level technology into the data collection, development, analysis,
and mapping work flow; review maps and Computer Aided Design and Drafting
(CADD) work; review plans and prepare reports related to surveying boundary
and title information; collect and analyze data; handle citizen complaints;
perform highly technical AutoCAD and computer data management; aids in
dissemination of geospatial data and technology. This position requires
considerable knowledge of geospatial mapping, ESRI software and present day
technology methods as well as knowledge of graphics and drafting practices;
ability to prepare maps and interpret plans and specs; ability to work
independently, take initiative and apply good judgment; ability to train
and supervise other staff; ability to research survey, construction and
title records for the purpose of preparing accurate property lines on
city-wide tax parcel base map; excellent communication and customer service
skills; ability to withstand exposure to varied climatic conditions; and
may assist with Department winter operations program.

 Necessary Requirements: Candidates must possess a valid State of Maine
Class C Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and must have and maintain good
driving record; GIS Certificate in Applied GIS from an accredited
institution, and a degree in Geography or a related field with four (4)
years experience in GIS applications, education and training is
desired. $793.88/week,
starting pay rate.
