Dear Colleagues,

The Fourth Annual Conference of GIS Educators in Maine is coming up on
November 18th from 9:30 to 4:30 at the Augusta Civic Center!
Registration is now open. Please visit the conference website for
details about the conference and a link to the secure online
registration form: http://gis.maine.edu/conference.htm. The agenda
will be posted soon. The conference fee is $35 for registration
received on or before November 14th and $40 for late registration. K12
teachers and students of all levels attend free!

I'm delighted to announce that our keynote speaker will be Jeannie
Allen, a Senior Science Education Specialist Sigma Space Corp. at NASA
Goddard Space Flight Center. She works with NASA's Landsat program and
will wow us with satellite views of earth and tell us about the
upcoming launch of the next generation Landsat satellite. Jeannie will
also be giving a workshop on Image J, a free satellite image analysis
application.

We still have a couple of open slots for presentations or workshops in
the Higher Education Track. If you would like to present, please
propose a workshop or presentation using our convenient web form here:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/959R36R. Guidelines are on the proposal
page.

Student project showcase and competition: This year the Maine GIS
Championships will be held in conjunction with the conference.
Students of any level from middle school through graduate school are
invited to present a project, video or poster. Students presenting are
not required to attend the conference, but there will be additional
awards for those who do attend. Visit the conference website for
details on the student showcase:
http://gis.maine.edu/student_competition.htm.

Participants may bring up to three posters each (48” x 48” or smaller)
to share at the lunchtime poster session. Posters may highlight
programs, projects and student work. We will also have tables for
displays and handouts. If you'd like to bring posters and/or display
materials, please indicate that on your registration form in the space
required.

If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Happy fall!

Tora
