Dear Colleagues,

The Fourth Annual Conference for GIS Educators in Maine is just a
couple weeks away, Friday, November 18th at the Augusta Civic Center!
The conference fee is $40 for registration on or before November 11th,
and $45 for late registration. K12 teachers and students of all levels
attend free but still need to register. Last year we had over 70
educators, students and GIS professionals at the conference!

The agenda is now available on the conference website, along with
session abstracts, directions to the conference, and information about
getting the most out of the conference:
http://gis.maine.edu/conference.htm.

Here are some highlights:

- The conference features K12 and higher education tracks! The K12
track has some great workshops for beginners, and K12 teachers and
students of all levels attend free.

- Keynote Speaker Jeannie Allen, Senior Science Education Specialist
with Sigma Space Corp. at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, will talk
about her work the Landsat program and offer a workshop on using free
Landsat imagery in the classroom with free Image J software.

- We have a limited amount of financial aid to cover substitutes for
K12 teachers on a first-come-first-served basis. Register for the
conference and indicate on the form that you wish to apply for
assistance, and we'll contact you.

- Hands-on Workshops and Exciting Presentations: Learn new tools, tips
and curriculum content.

- Student project showcase and competition: This year the Maine GIS
Championships will be held in conjunction with the conference.
Students of any level from middle school through graduate school are
invited to present a project, video or poster, and they need not
attend. See the conference website to learn more.

- Participants may bring up to three posters each (48” x 48” or
smaller) to share at the lunchtime poster session. Posters may
highlight programs, projects and student work. We will also have
tables for displays and handouts.

- Web streaming of sessions during the conference and recorded
sessions available after Nov 18th.

I'm also delighted to announce a new Maine GIS Educator's listserve.
You'll be receiving an invitation shortly, but if you'd like to sign
up now, visit the group page here:
http://groups.google.com/group/maine-gis-educators?hl=en

As always, please let us know if you have any questions about the
conference or problems with registration. I hope to see you soon!

Tora
