I would venture to say that there is at least one more category.  Those
who go to college to learn and to accomplish things, regardless of money.
I knew many of them in physics, both grad and undergrad.  They were there,
pure and simple, to learn more about the universe.  Most could care less
about $$$. And, in fact, many are working for fairly low wages and in fact
many still have a hard time even finding a job.
 
I am sure there are those kinds of people in all professions.
I would hope we have not gotten so cynical so as to think that the only
thing useful about college is the $$ earned afterwards.  Then again, maybe
things have gotten that bad.
