Greetings!

First, it was a genuine pleasure to meet so many of you during the book
sale last Saturday.
Alas, we are still inundated with books! Boxes of books! Mountains of
books! We're plagued by recurrent nightmares in which battalions of books
are marching inexorably upon us with the obscure emperor Maximinus Thrax at
the head. (Go figure. It's a nightmare.)

As one rather acerbic wit once proclaimed, "Give us your voracious dragons
by the baker's dozen, enough demonic entities to populate a board meeting,
and a broadside assault of plagues, pestilence, pains and putrefaction.
But, please preserve us from any occasion for tiresome rhapsody."

I shall bear this quote in mind as I proceed and will spare you the anguish
of quasi-poetic sentimentality, even though the throat lump that Robert
Frost claims is the beginning of all poetry is lead-dense and of
rapidly expanding proportions.
