*Annual URock Ice Skating Event This Sunday March 3. Bring Guests!*

Please join fellow URockers and their guests at the ice rink at Mid-Coast
Recreation Center on Route 90 Sunday, March 3 from noon to 2:00PM for free
ice skating. Skate rentals are also free! This is a wonderful time to
practice your skating or to learn to skate. It’s only URockers on the ice!
The rink will have refreshments and drinks for sale. Please sign up at the
URock front desk and sign the release form, too. We hope to see lots of you
there!

deadline is 3/18/13. There are many different types. It’s so
easy!

*You’re Invited to a “Viewing Party” for Chancellor’s State of the
University Address***

Chancellor James Page will give his State of the University address on
Thursday, March 7, at 11:00AM to  the Maine State Legislature.  He’s
expected to mention University College at Rockland as a major piece of the
solution to the state’s educational puzzle. You are invited to join us in
room #409 to watch this address as it is broadcast live. Coffee, bagels and
cream cheese will be served!

*Library Skills in Research and How to Cite Works Properly*

Ben Treat, a university librarian, will offer a free workshop on using
resources of the UMS library system without leaving your seat at URock in
the URock computer lab on Thursday March 7 from 12:30 – 1:30PM (after
Chancellor’s speech). His help will include finding good resources and then
deciding when and how to cite them. You will find this information very
important to your student success.  Do not wait until that research paper
is due! Build those skills now! You may sign up at the URock front desk but
it is not necessary.

*Financial Aid Info Session with UMA’s Financial Aid Director March 12 at
Noon*

Sherry McCollett, UMA’s Financial Aid Director, and a great supporter of
distance education students, will hold an open information session at URock
on Tuesday, March 12th at noon.  Pizza will be served. Please stop by and
meet Sherry face-to-face, ask questions and discuss anything relevant to
your financial aid.

*Degrees, Internships and Careers in Business with Tom Giordano March 18*

Join us for lunch and a discussion about UMA’s degrees in business plus
internship opportunities on Monday, March 18 from 11:30AM – 1:00PM.
Professor Tom Giordano and Business Internship Coordinator, Joyce
Shelleman, will visit URock for an informal discussion about program
requirements, career preparation and how to build in a meaningful
internship. Sign up at the URock front desk is encouraged but not required.

*MHHS Internship Fair–March 27 12-4 pm*

UROCK will be holding its first Mental Health and Human Services Volunteer
and Internship Job Fair on Wednesday, March 27 from 12-4 pm. This is a
great opportunity to meet reps from community agencies, to network and to
learn about internship placements in the community. Even if you are not
ready to enroll in your internship, this is a great way to meet providers
and to learn from them. Registration with the URock office encouraged but
not required. Refreshments will be provided!

*UMA’s Computer Information Systems Program – Info Session 3/28 &
Scholarships*

Starting in the fall of 2013 students will be able to take all of the
required courses for UMA’s Associate of Science in Computer Information
Systems at URock in a face-to-face format. Join one of the most dynamic and
growing professional fields in Knox County. In addition, URock will sponsor
two CIS scholarships to new CIS admits for fall 2013. *Please attend a CIS
information session with faculty member, Mark Goodridge, and some current
CIS students on Thursday, March 28 at 3:00PM.* Registration at the URock
front desk is encouraged but not required.

*Spring RaP Continues with Charlie Grunder on March 28 at Noon*

On Thursday, March 28 at noon Charlie Grunder <[log in to unmask]>,
Professor of Psychology, University of Maine at Augusta will present *Optimism,
Pessimism and Locus of Control: How Do They Affect Your Academics?
*Psychologists
study optimism versus pessimism and internal versus external locus of
control to predict how individuals respond to stressful events.  How can
this framework help predict who succeeds in school?  Professor of
Psychology Charles Grunder explores this question in regard to student
performance and concludes that prior GPA matters less than attributional
style in predicting good grades, the precursor to graduation and career
success.

UMFK will offer 7 online courses which will last 8 weeks in length. Check

It is time to file your next FAFSA <http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/> which will
fund courses for next summer, fall and spring 2014. The earlier you apply,
the more aid you may get. Don’t wait until your tax returns is filed.

The UMA Writing Center offers these and other tutoring services to distance
learners at UC by phone, email, and videochat. Work on campus or from home.

hours. Join a Google Hangout session with Writing Center Coordinator
Michelle Lisi, available by appointment every Friday this semester. Not
