*Newsletter – July 5*

*URock** Computers Unavailable July 12 & July 13*

Our student computers will receive an upgrade of hardware and software on
July 12 & 13. Student computers will be *UNAVAILABLE* on these days. Please
plan accordingly and we apologize for any inconvenience.

*Blackboard will Upgrade July 15 – July 17 – No Logging On!*

The instructional platform BLACKBOARD will undergo a software upgrade over
the weekend of July 15th. That means the system will be *unavailable* from
Friday, July 15th at 5:00PM until Monday, July 18th at 8:00AM. Since this is
in the middle of a term it may be disruptive to some ongoing summer classes.
*You will not be able to log on*. Please mark these important dates on your
calendar!

*Changes in Financial Aid Regulations*

Did you recently receive correspondence from financial aid? Regulations
changed related to satisfactory academic progress (SAP) which allows you to
continue to receive financial aid. The new policy discontinues any
probationary period. Any student found to be out of compliance will have
future financial aid suspended or not awarded, *including for the fall 2011
term*. UMA’s Financial Aid Office is contacting students *NOW. *If you are
affected because your SAP has dropped below an acceptable level, you have a
short period of time to appeal this decision. Appeals are based on
extenuating circumstances that impacted your ability to meet SAP. *Pay
attention to all e-mails, message center notifications, and letters sent to
you.* Take responsibility to be informed. Appeals are filed using this
form<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/files/2011/07/SAP-Appeal-form.pdf>.
Print and return it directly to financial aid or to the URock office. If you
are worried talk with Bev <[log in to unmask]> or Deb<[log in to unmask]>
.

*URock** Student Lounge Resource and Reading Corner*

We have reorganized and reenergized the career resources in the student
lounge. New materials include books on careers, job searching, college
majors and what to do with them. Books may be checked out by URock students
for a period of two weeks. The simple process for checking out is to bring
the books to the URock counter for check out. Here’s a sample of some new
titles: *From Pink Slip to Paycheck–The Road to Reemployment
(Interviewing); Gallery of Best Resumes for 2 Year Grads; Gallery of Best
Cover Letters; Get Certified and Get Ahead; Great Careers in 2 years. *

*NO Smoking Within 100 Feet*

Please adhere to the policy of no smoking within 100 feet of the entrances
to the Breakwater Building. Take advantage of the two new picnic tables on
the waterfront and move away from the building when smoking. Thanks for your
cooperation.

*Be Wise & Lock Your Cars*

Although URock and its surrounding areas are safe environments, there is an
increase of reported property thefts in the mid-coast. Therefore, we advise
that you lock your cars in the parking lot for added safety.
