*Newsletter – February 23*

*Expressions Night on Friday!*

Share your amazing talents with your fellow students on Friday, February
25th at 5:30PM. All types of personal expression are welcome. Read poetry,
stories, spoken work, exhibit your art, perform a favorite character, reveal
your inner rockster, mime, sing, or throw in a new and novel idea! Think of
it as an open-mic night. (Shhh…acts will include a performance by faculty
members Potter, Moro and Vail!) To sign up to perform at this event, email
Mary Lynch at [log in to unmask]

This UROCK Expressions Night will be dedicated to the memory of student
Joshua Bowen, who thrived in the performing arts. Donations are appreciated
but not necessary for the American Heart Association and/or the Make a Wish
Foundation.

*Mental Health Counseling Available on a Drop-In Basis*

Richard Chalmers, a graduate student in mental health counseling at USM is

build your resume) think about stepping up! These positions open up special
scholarship and stipend situations. ($$)Â See Bev or Deb FMI.

*2011-2012 UMA General Scholarships*

Scholarships are financial awards which do not have to be repaid. UMA
students have an opportunity to apply for a number of scholarships as a
result of funding made available by the University of Maine at Augusta, the
University of Maine System, and generous donations by organizations and
individuals to the UMA scholarship fund. Visit
http://www.uma.edu/finaidscholarships.html for a complete list of
scholarships available. The deadline is March 4, 2011.

*Financial Aid*

Scholarships that are based on financial eligibility require that the
applicant submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA<http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/>)
to the federal processor by February 15th to meet the UMA *preferred* filing
date of March 1, 2011.

Download the General Scholarships Information and
Application<http://www.uma.edu/assets/docs/finaid/General_Scholarship_Application.pdf>

Note: Despite the vacation schedule, make-ups will occur this Friday,
February 25th at 4:00PM

*Ready to Graduate? Apply Now!*

If you plan to graduate this May, you must submit an application for
graduation. If you are a UMA degree candidate, go to the graduation
form<http://www.uma.edu/applicationforgraduationform.html>online at
the UMA web site for the fastest submission. We also have some
hard copy forms but the online submission is recommended.

*Maine NEW Leadership Summer Conference*

Maine NEW Leadership is a six-day, residential training program, offered at
no charge each June to undergraduate college women. Established in response
to the reality that women are significantly under-represented in
legislatures, both nationally and in Maine, NEW Leadership encourages and
teaches women how to become effective leaders. Research suggests that women
are less likely than men to consider themselves qualified to run for office
or to be encouraged to run for office. Maine NEW Leadership provides role
models and mentors who are having a positive impact on women’s political
interest.

This year’s conference will be held June 2 – 7 at the University of Maine at
Orono. For more information and application materials, see Bev or Deb at
URock.
