*Columbus Fall Break – Oct 14 & 15*

There are no classes and URock will be closed Monday, October 14. Although
there are no classes on Tuesday, Oct 15, the URock office will be open 8AM
– 5:30PM.

*Info Sessions on UMPI Programs in Elementary Education and BA English- Oct
17*

Are you interested in receiving teacher certification at the elementary
level? Or, are you interested in a BA in English offered online? The
University of Maine at Presque Isle offers both of these programs at a
distance to Rockland students. Info sessions will be held at URock
regarding admissions and degree requirements on Oct 17. From 4:00 – 5:00PM,
the requirements for Elementary Education will be covered; from 5:00 –
6:00PM, the requirements for the BA in English will be covered. Please join
us! Registration at the URock front desk is suggested but not required for
either session. IN addition, UMPI has a nice selection of online
courses<http://www.umpi.edu/academic-resources/online-courses/course-offerings>starting
up October 21 if you wish to add more academics to your fall
semester.

*Freeze Frame Photography Coming to URock for Grad Photos and More – Oct 17*

On Thursday, Oct 17, a professional photographer will visit URock for
graduation and student photos. We have never tried this before but some
students have requested this service. It is open to all current students
and alumni. The photographer <[log in to unmask]> will be
here from 10:30 – 6:00PM. Please call them at 370-9021 to reserve your time.

*SA to Sponsor Tickets to HD Performance of MACBeth Oct 17*

The URock Student Association will sponsor free student tickets to the
National Theater of London HD performance of
MACBETH<http://www.rocklandstrand.com/event/nt-live-macbeth>at the
Rockland Strand on Thursday, October 17 at either 2:00PM or 7:00PM.
Please sign up at the URock front desk. It will be another terrific show!

*Honors Program Information Session Oct. 23*

Jodi Williams, UMA Associate Professor and Honors Program Director will be
at URock on Wed Oct 23 for a luncheon/information session about the UMA
Honors Program <http://www.uma.edu/honors.html>.  In the afternoon at
3:00PM, Jodi will meet with *current* members of the program. Please RSVP
to the URock office if you are interested to learn more.

*Mobile Veterans’ Van to Visit URock Oct 24*

The Mobile Veterans’ Van will visit URock on Thursday, October 24 from 11AM
to 1:30PM. It will be located in the parking lot of the Breakwater
Marketplace Building near the Jensen’s Pharmacy entrance.  All those
accessing VA benefits are urged to visit the van on this day to make sure
you are maximizing your benefits and to build relationships with the
university staff and VA staff who support veterans and military personnel.
The staff of the van are real experts on all types of services and benefits
for veterans. They usually have great coffee and donuts, too!

*Fright Night at the Fort!  Come If You Dare Oct 26!*

You and a guest are invited by the URock Student Association to attend the
haunted “fort” night at Fort Knox on Saturday, October 26. The bus leaves
the URock parking lot at 5:30PM and returns around 9:00-ish. This is
supposed to be a great Halloween experience *but not recommended for
children under 12.* Sign up by October 18 at 5:00PM for your free ticket(s).

*Assistance for Math and English for UMA’s Distant Students*

UMA has a Math Tutoring Hotline (877-862-1234 ext 3082) available every
Tuesday and Thursday from 11AM to 4PM. You and the math tutor may share a
screen remotely, working through problems in My Math Lab as you work
together on math concepts. In addition, UMA offers writing
support<http://www.uma.edu/writingtutor.html>online as well as through
Michelle Lisi on Fridays from 12 – 2 via Google

*Drop-In Technology Support*

There is Tech Support help onsite in the computer lab every Tuesday from
2:30 – 3:30PM with student, Dan Osier. No question is too big or too small.
Try to stump Dan! Drop-ins welcome!

*URock the Subject of a Photo Documentary*

Photographer, Jeannie Hutchins, will be working this fall on a photo
documentary project about URock and its students. You will see her on
campus with some large lenses! We are excited to have her creating a visual
account of URock. Smile!

*Where’s My Coffee?*

This year’s Student Association has decided to spend less money on coffee
and more money on activities. Therefore, coffee cards have been
discontinued and a Keurig Coffee Machine (good stuff!) has been purchased
and installed. Keurig’s “K-cups” are available for just $1 in the vending
machine and there are lots of flavors. Or, you can bring your own K-cup
from home and brew it here at URock. Also, check out the expanded selection
of drinks and snacks in the new machines.

*Proctored Test Times*

If you need to take an exam other than during its regular class time, you
will need to schedule your test through the URock front office. Our testing
hours through the fall will be Tuesdays 8:00 – 11:00AM and Fridays, 4:00 –
7:00PM. A photo ID is required and, in many cases, instructor permission.

*Watch for Other Student Activities This Fall*

The URock SA is planning more fall activities. Stay tuned for more details,

*Enjoy Our Picnic Tables by the Shore!*

We urge you to enjoy the view and cool breezes down at the shore at the
URock picnic tables. There is a cigarette butt disposer by the tables.
Please put all other trash in the dumpster.

*URock Sweats and Tees*

We have just received a shipment of new URock sweatshirts, sweatpants,
T-shirts, long sleeved shirts and more. There’s lots of new colors and
designs. Check out the inventory.
