*Newsletter – June 8*

*Maine Street Has Been Upgraded!*

The Maine Street Student Information System has been upgraded to a new
version and you will notice some changes in navigation which are intended to
be easier. In addition, from your Student Center Home Page you will also see
a link to “degree progress report”. This is a very valuable tool that helps
you track your progress in meeting your degree requirements.

*Summer Session II Starts July 5th*

There is still time to register for summer session II classes* *which begin
the week of July 5th. You will need either financial aid or payment when you
register for most classes. Please note that if you have a Mon/Wed class that
meets in session II, your make up class may be held on Friday, July 8th.
Check your class schedule.

*Work Study and Volunteer Job Openings***

There are still a few unstaffed jobs for work study students, or for those
who wish to volunteer at URock. Please contact Althea
Simeone<[log in to unmask]>to discuss these opportunities.

*URock Communications – Web, Newsletter, Facebook?*

We do our best to get the word out – through this electronic newsletter, on
the web site and on
Facebook<http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/University-College-at-Rockland/101812551462>.
But students still seem to miss very important information. We’d love to
hear from you about the best ways to communicate with you. Send Deborah
Meehan <[log in to unmask]> an email with any suggestions.

*Geek2Geek Newsletter*

The Computer Information Systems Program at UMA produces a periodic
newsletter. Check out the summer
edition<http://cis.uma.edu/includes/newsletters/geek2geeksummer11.htm>
.

*Earnings by Major and Subject Area*

The Chronicle of Higher Education just published this interesting interactive
graph <http://chronicle.com/article/Median-Earnings-by-Major-and/127604/>about
the value of a college degree by college major. Run your cursor over the
bars in the graph for a list of occupations.

*Bulletin Board for Internships and Job Openings*

The bulletin board across from the URock front office has up to date
listings of companies looking for interns as well as those seeking part-time
and full-time employees. We try to keep the listings current so keep
checking for new material.

Enjoy!

This is a great way to save your seat in your favorite classes while waiting
for financial aid, or tuition reimbursement, or state vouchers to take
effect.

*URock Apparel*

You can order URock apparel
online<https://sites.google.com/site/kdkshop/urock>throughout the
summer with our logo and the clothes (T-shirts, sweats, etc.)
will be hand delivered to you at URock.

*New Financial Aid Rules – Changes in Satisfactory Academic Progress*

Federal financial aid regulations are changing related to satisfactory
academic progress (SAP) which allows you to continue to receive financial
aid. The new policy discontinues the probationary period and any student who
is found to be out of compliance will have their future financial aid
suspended or not awarded. UMA’s Financial Aid Office will contact students
via message center and written correspondence will be sent to students who
are out of federal compliance. If you are affected because your SAP has
dropped below an acceptable level, you have 14 days from notification to
appeal this decision if you feel you have extenuating circumstances that
impacted your ability to meet SAP. *Pay attention to all e-mails, message
center notifications, and letters sent to you.* Take responsibility to be
informed. If you are worried talk with Bev <[log in to unmask]> or
Deb<[log in to unmask]>
.

If you have not yet completed your FAFSA for the next academic year, it is
not too late. Please go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to file.
