*Newsletter – November 27*

*First URock Student Art Show Opens Friday, December 3rd*

Mark your calendars for Friday, December 3rd for the URock 1st Ever Student
Art Show Opening. Students in Seth Lester’s ART 100 – Studio Art, Emily
Wolf’s ART 115 – Drawing and Dee Peppe’s ART 109 – Digital Photography, will
open a showing of their best work. Refreshments will be served. Come and
celebrate these student artists. Your guests are welcome, too.

*Hamlet Tickets Please!*

The National Theater of London LIVE performance of Hamlet is on Thursday,
December 9th. If you signed on to attend either the 2:00PM or 7:00PM showing
at Rockland’s Strand Theater then your ticket is available. Most tickets
will be distributed in classes the week of November 29th. However, if you
miss that, please collect your ticket at the URock front office. Thanks
again to the URock Student Association for sponsoring our ticket purchases.
Enjoy the show!

*Internships*

Student internships provide opportunities to experiment and pursue careers
that match your academic and personal interests. You can develop real world
experience that builds your resume beyond the classroom. Beverly and Deborah
have some good leads on local internships, or we can help you develop a good
placement. Remember that many employers consider internship experiences in
the hiring process. Ask us about this.

*Spring Registration Open*

Registration for the spring term is now open. You can build your wish list
in Maine Street or go right in and register for classes. Check
here<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/highlights/registration-for-spring-2011-is-just-around-the-corner/>for
*all *campus registration dates. And, check
here<http://learn.maine.edu/rockland/files/2010/07/Spring-2011-UROCK-Early-In-House-Guide-1018101.pdf>for
a preview of the spring schedule at URock. Schedule an advising
appointment for help in choosing the best courses to meet your needs.  If
you are unable to see an advisor right away, look at your program checksheet
and self-register in Maine Street.  Then when you meet with an advisor, you
can double check your choices.

*Mental Health Counseling Available Spring Term*

Starting in January, Richard Chalmers, a graduate student in mental health
counseling at USM will begin a one semester internship which includes
offering individual counseling to members of the URock community. This
service is free of charge. If you need support with adjusting to school,
depression, anxiety, problems in relationships or would just like someone to
talk to, please contact either Bev or Deb for a referral. Richard is
currently a graduate student at USM, has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in
psychology and has studied art at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has
worked extensively with mens groups including Maine Coast Men. His
background includes several meditation retreats at the Insight Meditation
Society and Morgan Bay Zendo. Richard believes in an active, creative,
problem solving approach to counseling and is looking forward to working at
URock.

*URock Writer’s Club – Off and Running*

The URock Writer’s Club is off to a great start and the second meeting had
twice as many participants.  Contact student Joshua
Wallace<[log in to unmask]>for more info.

*Discount Cards – Is Yours at the Office??*

Many students signed up for the card but never returned to pick up the
laminated, finished card. Please pick up yours in the front office. Your
card could help with holiday shopping! See here for a list of businesses
offering discounts.
