*Learn about Toxic Stress and Its Impact on Early Learning and Health*

On Friday, *10/4*, at 7:30 p.m., *Dr. Pat Levitt*, an internationally
renowned neuroscientist from the University of Southern California and
Director of the Developmental Neurogenetics Program at Children’s Hospital
in Los Angeles, will deliver a *public
address*<http://www.bowdoin.edu/calendar/event.jsp?bid=618150&rid=77037#.UkXHoH8v5ac>at
Bowdoin College in Brunswick. Dr. Levitt will share the latest
research
on the *impact of stress and trauma* on children’s brain development and
the implications of that research for the role of the community and public
policy in prevention and intervention. The events will help participants
better understand the behavioral and mental health challenges facing very
young children, young adults and families, with an emphasis on why
recognizing and addressing early childhood development is a community
concern. The public lecture in Kresge Auditorium is free and open to the
public.

We are searching for volunteers to help with the *annual pie sale *scholarship
fundraiser. Sale dates: *10/10-10/28*. Pick-up pies: *11/7* @ 3 pm. The
hand-crafted in Maine, frozen pies are perfect for your holiday table and
even better as a gift! Selling is fun and easy and a great way to connect

to examine work values and interests, identify transferable skills,
and explore earning potential. Participants learn about local projected
growth industries and identify the skills, education, and training needed
to achieve your career goals. Assistance with resume building and job
seeking will also be provided. The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays

A three-session *Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

held at the Midcoast Center for Higher Education on Tuesday,

workshop is designed to help an individual learn more about his or her
personality and learning style, discover the role of personality in the
career planning process, and explore the relationship between personality
type and career satisfaction. The workshop is open to students and the
