At approximately 11:30am today there was a brief widespread network
disruption impacting multiple University campuses as well as numerous
schools and libraries.  The cause of the outage was a loss of optical
equipment in Augusta, which disrupted a primary north/south network path.
This triggered a failover to backup paths, which unfortunately took a few
moments to fully complete resulting in the disruption.  Work to restore the
Augusta equipment is ongoing, however no additional impacts to the network
are expected.  All services have fully restored onto the backup paths.   If
any issues are still being noticed that are believed to be related to this
event, please contact Networkmaine for troubleshooting.
