Kennebec Valley Community College has an immediate opening for a Learning Diversity Specialist. KVCC is a 2-year comprehensive community college in the center of Maine serving approximately 2400 students from Somerset, Kennebec, and Knox counties and well beyond.  In 2014, KVCC expanded its Fairfield-based operation to include a new 600-acre Harold Alfond Campus in Hinckley, Maine.  This is the last year of a five year grant cycle. Kennebec Valley Community College has maintained a TRIO grant since 1993. This position is projected to have expanded institutional responsibilities related to student success in the coming grant cycle.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in Special Education, Adult Education, Counseling, or a related field with two years of experience providing college access services to low-income, first generation students and students with disabilities. Knowledge of the field of learning differences, assistive technology, and college success for underrepresented populations preferred; unwavering belief in the ideal of educational opportunity and the limitless potential of the target population essential; excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work well within a team, and database and word processing skills required.

Responsibilities:

The TRIO Learning Diversity Specialist will be responsible for designing programming for, and delivering services to, TRIO students with diverse learning needs who require additional support to reach their academic potential. They will carry a caseload of advisees that includes students with disabilities and students in the College's Academic Recovery Program among other underrepresented populations on campus. The major focus will be working with students to develop and launch effective, customized graduation plans and providing academic coaching, personal support, and connections to other campus supports as necessary to achieve students' educational goals as well as monitoring their progress to degree completion.

The Learning Diversity Specialist will assist with day-to-day administration of the TRIO program, including assuming responsibility for ensuring programming and training around technological requirements of students and staff (i.e. assistive and adaptive technology, learning management systems, educational software and apps, etc.). They will also participate in other College-sponsored initiatives to support the target population.
