I'd like to point out that Mark Spence -- a dandy sophomore for Middlebury
(not D-I, but pertinent) -- is also a black player. How he slipped by the
D-I recruiting net is a mystery to me, but he's going to be a force for the
Panthers for the next two years yet.

BUT... let's not let this devolve into a discussion of ethnicity. It makes
not one whit of difference whether a player is white, black, brown, blue or
piebald, what counts is how he plays the game. Next to be "noticed", IMHO,
are Latinos, who at this time are surely "under-represented" but who will, I
predict, be present in significant numbers in the not-too-distant future.
And again, so what? As long as the player can play, that's good enough for
me, and ought to be good enough for any hockey fan. No doubt not so many
years ago it may have been "acceptable" to observe that a player was Italian,
or Jewish -- characteristics no longer considered worthy of note.

Does this make me eligible for ACLU membership? Hope not!
