AS PUBLISHED IN THE "MINNESOTA DAILY" THE U OF MINNESOTA STUDENT NEWSPAPER
I AM FORWARDING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
ESPN-TV will televise the Gold Medal Game of the Festival on Saturday, July 14
at 8:00 PM (CDT). They will also televise portions of two other games: South vs
East at 3:00 PM (CDT) on Tuesday July 10 and North vs West at 8:00 PM also on
Tuesday July 10. They are expecting crowds of around 5,000 for the preliminary
rounds. I am also passing along the Minnesota-bred players and other WCHA
players to watch. (If anyone else knows which players made the teams from the
other leagues, please put a note out, thanks.)
TEAM NORTH (coach: Shawn Walsh): Jason Miller, Grant Bischoff, Doug Zmolek,
Travis Richards (all U of Minn), Jeff Saterdahlen, Brett Hodican (both from St.
Cloud State, MN), Barry Richter (Wisconsin).
TEAM EAST : Mike Muller (U of Minn), Rob Andringa (Wis), Brian Bethard
(Colorado College), John Young (Mich Tech).
TEAM SOUTH (coach: Brad Buetow): Ben Hankinson, Larry Olimb, Ken Gernander,
(all U of Minn), Chad Erickson (UM-Duluth), Tony Couture (No Dakota), Sean Hill
and Don Granato (Wis), John Mooney and Steve Strunk (Colorado College), Tony
 Szabo (Northern Mich).
TEAM WEST : Trent Klatt, Tom Newman, Jeff Nielsen (all U of Minn), Derian
Hatcher(North Stars #1 draft pick), Chris Gotziaman (No Dakota), Dan Plante,
and Jason Zent (Wis), Brett Hauer (UM-Duluth), Bryan Schoen and Ryan O'Leary
 (Denver).
The article also stated: Originally, USOF-'90 was expected to showcase the
talent the 1992 U.S. Olympic Committee had available. But Art Berglund (the
General Manager of USA Hockey, the country's amateur hockey governing board)
and USA Hockey decided to use the Goodwill Games in Seattle as the proving
ground rather than the festival. Only amateur athletes can participate in the
Twin Cities, while professionals can take part in the Goodwill Games. More
than half the hockey roster in Seattle is expected to consist of minor-league
and NHL players. Former Gopher Pete Hankinson, who is too old to play in this
year's festival, is expected to be among those players invited to Seattle.
The TEAM WEST squad is composed of players below age 20 who are also likely to
make up the U.S. Junior National Team in August.
Have fun!! Carol W. U of Mn.
