No, I don't think it's a good idea. I suppose there is a precedent,
what with college basketball being 40 minutes as opposed to 48 for the
NBA. However, I think there are 2 big differences. First, the ice
surface. By the end of 20 minutes, the ice is beat up pretty bad, 5
more minutes is just going to make it worse. Worse, it's the last 5
minutes of the game which will be affected. I hate to see the end of
a great game played on ice where the puck can barely slide along. And
what about overtime? There won't be any ice left. Talk about slow...

Second, 2 periods drastically lessens the amount of "rest time" the
players will get. Without the extra intermission, I would forsee
players getting more tired, probably playing less, forcing the dreaded
4th line to play more :-)

Besides, think about all the concession sales the schools will lose by
not having that extra intermission. And when am I supposed to go to
the mens' room? 1/2 :-)

I think perception of the league will change, and probably not for the
better. It will be a curiosity for a while, but I think people will
grow tired of the novelty. I just don't think this rule advances
college hockey at all. I think it sets it back.

Well, no, that shouldn't happen. I don't think the NCAA basketball
committee gave the Big East any less consideration because of its 6
foul rule. Granted, the 6 foul rule (which I don't like either) isn't
as big a change as this proposed one, but there are still
similarities.
