Although I agree with your thoughts that colleges should primarily be
interested in educating the players, I have to disagree with your suggestion
that the issue arises from foreign born players from either Canada or
Finland:

The question seems to be more apt of an American kid, Lacouture, who attended
BU first semester but withdrew before any winter exams.  Although he is
enrolled for second semester, it is possible that he could go pro after the
title game, and consequently play the entire year without taking an exam at
BU.  I think it is far more plausible that Lacouture is using the "loophole"
rather than the Fininsh Degerman, who will probably be around for four years
a la Kaj Linna.
