Scratch Michigan from that list. The Wolverines will still be talented
and should make the NC$$ tourney for the fourth consecutive year, but
on paper they're certainly not #1. I have to give the nod to LSSU. They
had 20 freshmen and sophomores on this year's team. The only serious
losses to graduation are defenseman Michael Smith (a big loss) and
forward Dean Hulett. Of course, Brian Rolston is a ? -- LSSU, Olympics
or New Jersey Devils. I expect Rolston to spend at least part of the
season in a Laker uniform. Plus, unlike some teams, LSSU can get by
without it's big gun. Hey, the 1992-93 team lost two first-team All-
Americans (Darrin Madeley and Mark Astley) and still returned to the
championship game.

As a whole, the CCHA will be a dogfight next season. Unless LSSU runs
away and hides, I expect it to look like the WCHA did this season --
6-8 losses can still mean first place. Miami will be poised to defend,
I've already mentioned LSSU and Michigan, Michigan State has the makings
for a great season (and an NC$$ trip), Western Michigan and BGSU are
young and improving, UIC can't be as bad as they were in 1992-93, Kent,
Ferris State and Notre Dame are not gimme games, and then there is Ohio
State. The Buckeyes are young, but still looking at the basement, IMHO.
