Well, up here in Maine it's ten-below Fahrenheit, and I'm taking French
wine off the shelves as fast as I can afford to!

Don't believe everything you hear on this list. Many, here and elswhere
around the world, are applauding France as the courageous voice of reason.
As for the other question, Jon's, about reading Pound through the French
theorists, maybe start with Pisan Cantos via Foucault's Discipline &
Punish? I learned recently that the steel cage Pound was kept in at Pisa is
still the standard Army design, and is being used at Guantanamo Bay for
those prisoners. Surveillance, Panopticon. Poindexter, Ashcroft. Vive la
