I would tend to agree with you that the usage of the term in question does
not nec. connote actual violence. But I do think, and I could be wrong here,
that
anti-semitism can be considered a 'Term', a general umbrella. I've seen it
this way: With the Inferno, Dante took a 'Term' and delineated circles,
levels of descent into meaning, cataloging by degree. If done with
anti-semitism, Pound could certainly fall under the umbrella, but at what
level? I think Lee Lady was suggesting that the use of a term, such as
anti-semite, is "sloppy", i.e. inefficient language, so to speak. 'Terms'
tend to be dangerously loaded.
