I am one of those who was on this list years back, "jumped ship" (actually
was net-disconnected for a while), and has since returned. Arthur is
correct. It was standard among some of us to always use NC$$, and his use
of "mafia" is neither casual nor unrelated to these topics (and BTW, what is
the "group mentality" nonsense about?). What would you call an organization
that intimidates, plays by its own set of rules, actively discourages any
school from going to the courts, and generally manipulates college athletics
for their own agenda (Hockey be damned!)?
I think "mafia" is not hyperbole but a fair comparison - no bodies except
for some ruined careers, but beyond that, a pretty apt comparison.
As for the relation to the new conferences and the change in rules, the
NC$$ has not done anything to encourage growth of college hockey, and I, for
one, would be very suspicious of ANYTHING these turkeys do. I was a
proponent of major college hockey powers telling the NC$$ to @#$% off a
number of years ago. Establish their own organization both to regulate AND
develop college hockey and welcome all colleges interested in the sport to
join them. At the same time they could make it clear to the NC$$ that if
they tried any reprisals against any school's other sports, then the new
organization would go toe-to-toe in court. Of course schools like Michigan
and Notre Dame wouldn't dare to risk the NC$$'s wrath, but it's STILL a good
idea.
