I think that if you watch the European players in the NHL where fighting is
not as prevelant i.e. the Swedes you will notice they use their stick a lot.
If you listen to people like the pros from the 60's and 70's you will hear
them say that the face mask and half shield cause players to be less than
careful with their sticks. Players don't are not as careful with their
sticks because of this some of these people point to the mask... So do some
of the coaches in the WCHA...
