To answer the burning question, the majority of the Capitals lost man-games
were due to conditioning type injuries.  The main problem was
abdominal/groin pulls.  As a side-note the Caps lost more games this year
than last year.
I think the point is being lost in concussion stats.  The face shield is not
the saviour or cause of most concussions.   It is more of a protector
against the stick to the face.  If you watch the pros, they won't wear any
face protection until they have had their blood drawn by something other
than a fist.
If we expect players to police themselves how do we handle the one player
who chooses not to follow the rules.  All it takes is one nasty incident for
the media to grab hold and then "everybody" will clamor for a rule change
back to the way it was.
