What does the statement "Life ain't fair" have to do with this discussion of
Title IX?!

Some people on this list have responded to the lack of opportunities for
women to play sports with the answer of "Life ain't fair, so learn to live
with it". Well, the last time I checked, institutionalized sexism was
illegal in this country. That means we all have an obligation to rid this
country of sexism. It's NOT an issue of economic feasibility. It's an
issue of equal opportunity under the law. Athletic departments who don't
like offering women's sports should be read the "Life's not fair" speech,
not women athletes.

Do I support every aspect of Title IX? Of course not, it has some major
flaws in it. And I am disturbed by the instances of men's sports being cut
to comply with it. But I support the basic values and concepts of Title IX.
Sexism cannot be excused by simply saying "Life's not fair". Bring on the
flames.....
