The Hockey East Awards were announced tonight and Maine received only the
Team Sportsmanship Award and an honorable mention for Peter Metcalf on
defense.

That's right, Maine placed no players on the 1st Team, 2nd Team or
All-Rookie team this year. Not sure when the last time that happened, if
ever. Hard to argue with the selections. Maine does not have a crew of
outstanding individuals (like 1993), but the team concept is working well
for them right now.

A.J. Begg was a runner-up to the best defensive defenseman and Matthias
Trattnig was a runner-up for the best defensive forward category.

Paul Pooley of Providence was named Coach of the Year, with Tim Whitehead
the runner up. Brian Gionta won Player of the Year.
