1996 HOCKEY-L NCAA TOURNAMENT PREDICTION CONTEST
================================================

As I mentioned yesterday I have taken over the role from G.M. Finniss who
has operated these contests prior to this year. Originally, Vijay Saluja
from Lake Superior State University was going to operate the contest from
their web site. However they've had some trouble so Vijay asked if I would
still be willing to do it. I think this has been a valuable part of
HOCKEY-L for the last couple years, so I'll be glad to take the torch and do
it for a few years myself (as well as the Regular Season Conest come fall,
stay tuned).

In past years the contest has worked the following way. 1 point for the
first round games, 2 points for predicting the second round games correctly,
then 4 points for the next semi-finals, and 8 points for predicting the
champion. I am going to make some changes to that (for at least this year)
so that more people can stay "in the running" longer.

The new system will weight every game picked correctly with 2 points, no
matter if it is the first-round game, or the championship game. Some people
have expressed interest in this system to me, so we will try it for this
year, and see how it works out. My concern is that we might have a ton of
people tied at the end, so I will ask that you include the total goals
scored for the championship game. This will be the deciding factor in case
of a tie. If there is still a tie (for instance one person picks 10, the
other 12 with the final being 6-5) then the number closest to the actual
number without going over will be the deciding tiebreaker. If a tie exists
and two people pick the exact same total goals, than the contest will end in
a tie.

Please fill out the demographics section, this will allow me to add some
"fun" rankings as well. All that is *required* is your name, e-mail
address, conference and region (EAST OR WEST) all other information is optional.

The entry form is below, REMEMBER if you entered the LSSU contest you will
have to reenter to be considered for the HOCKEY-L contest. I will accept
entries to the contest until Friday March 22 at 4pm ET. Please send entries
and questions to [log in to unmask]
