In a defensive gem, Boston University defeated Providence tonight (3/4) at
Providence, 4-0.

BU's lack of a sniper showed up again as offensive opportunity after beautiful
set-up after open net were squandered. BU's passing was smooth, flowing,
controlled, skilled, and quite superb. Finishing the play was not happening,
but the unfinished plays were works of art. One comment I made was that BU's
forwards were making better field-goal kickers than hockey snipers. The glass
and net behind Providence's goal were well used.

On the defensive end, BU played what was perhaps one of its best games of the
season. There was one point, in the third, when a Providence player got
behind the D and the defensemen had to haul him down (2 min). I immediately
began to get upset, asking how they could have let a guy sneak behind them.
The fact is, I can sit here and talk about the one defensive mistake. Nice
game.

Herlofsky earned another shut-out in goal, continuing his hot streak, tonight
seeing only sporadic action. (2 shots in the first period) It was a different
type of game for him, but all he did tonight was show that he could make a big
save, stand there for 7 minutes, and then make 3 big saves again.

This was a game BU dominated from start to finish (without much scoring to show
for it). The crowd (both BU and Prov) seemed to just sit on their hands and
watch tonight. My reading (I have a loud voice) of the decision on Maine
(given to me by a media person) seemed to draw the biggest reaction from the
BU crowd tonight. (except for the goals)

Again, the story of the night in tonight's game was BU's defensive corp. They
seem to have really pulled together.
