Results from Saturday night's games.

CLARKSON 7, Harvard 5
This was a great game for Clarkson. They played consistently for
the whole game, looking like a top-rated team. They did taper off near the
end, but the defense did hold. The young defense has come along way since
the beginning of the season. Clarkson is managing to clear their zone a lot
better now. The results of the weekend bode well for the trip to Boston.
Early in the first period Clarkson was able to control most of the
play but were almost scored upon twice when goalie Currie decided to come
out of his net to play the puck. On the second chance a Harvard player
essentially had an empty net. I guess he was really confused and couldn't
believe what was going on. The fans got on Currie's back to stay in the net,
which he did and quickly settled down. Clarkson's defenseman Tretowicz scored
the first goal of the night @ 9:42 while on the pp. He blasted a slap-shot
from the center of the ice at the blue line that beat a well screened Roy.
Assists to Torrey and Belanger. Harvad's Ciavaglia tied it up on the pp @
12:22 after a nice passing play from Vukonich and Weisbrod. A lot of heavy
checking went on for the rest of the periods. Both teams were exchanging hits
as ref. Gailpeau let it go. Clarkson's second goal by Trombley @ 13:26 was
pretty weird. Trombley appeared to just flip the puck towards
the goal from the right boards. The puck skittered and bounced and totally
fooled Roy. The period's last goal was "scored" by Tavi of Clarkson on
the pp @ 14:48. Well, it was really scored by the ref. Galipeau.
During a scramble in front of the net, Roy covered up the puck. However
there was no whislte so Clarkson continued to jam away. The puck popped
loose again and rolled into the goal just after the net had been knocked
off of it's moorings by a Harvard player. Galipeau said the goal
counted because a Harvard player had knocked the net off. Donato of
Harvard complained that Roy had the puck. Usually there is a fast
whistle rather than a late one in these cases, especially if the ref
loses sight of the puck. Clarkson got lucky.
Clarkson came out strong in the second period and went up 5-1 after
5 minutes. Belanger scored @ 3:23 and freshmen Conroy @ 5:05. Harvard
would score the next two goals. Breistoff scored @ 6:51 unassisted
after Clarkson defensemen gave up the puck twice trying to clear the
zone. Donato scored next @ 7:54 on a nice play as he skated in form the
left, got in front of the defenseman and beat Currie, something he would
repeat in the third period. Thomas of Clarkson would make it 6-3 on the
pp @ 14:29. He picked the puck up behind the Harvard net, skated in a
wide arc out above the face off spot to the right of Roy and fired a
wrist shot that beat Roy high completely.
In the third period, Clarkson tried to sit on their lead. This
worked until Donato came in again and got around Sanderson to beat
Currie @ 10:11. Harvard pulled to within one @ 17:39 with a pp goal by
Vukonich. Clarkson felt the game starting to slip, but time was on
their side and they were able to tighten the defense up. With the
goalie pulled, Harvard was never able to effectively penetrate the
Clarkson zone. Belanger was able to score the empty-netter @ 19:41. I
believe that this was Clarkson's first empty-net goal.
Roy had 25 saves while Currie had 22. Clarkson only out-shot
Harvard in the first period, the rest were tied. Clarkson was 3 for 6
on the pp while Harvard was 2-4.

SLU 4, Dartmouth 3
SLU got lucky in this one. After Wells of SLU scored @ 6:13 in the
first period, Dartmouth scored three goals. Chapman @ 9:18, Richardson
@ 10:35 and Filk @ 15:13 (sh). E. Lacroix scored @ 18:58 for SLU. During
the first five minutes of the second period Dartmouth failed to score
while on a 5 min. pp. Beattie of SLU scored on the play just after
expiration of the major penalty to tie the game @ 4:31. It took until
18:18 of the third period for SLU to score the last goal. Dent got the
game winner. Giroux of SLU had 3 saves on 6 shots in the first for SLU
while Kuntar had 11 for the rest of the game. Bracco of Dartmouth had
38.

UVM 4, Colgate 3, OT

The past weekend really grouped the top teams in the ECAC even closer.
RPI did beat Colgate Friday night. Most of the next league games for
the teams are against travelling partners. Jan 19 will see Clarkson vs.
SLU @ Walker. Clarkson will be out for revenge and pride's sake.

Correction: Clarkson is 5-4 on the road, not 3-4 as previously stated.
Two of the losses being to Browm and Yale.
