These first games (I believe) of the 1994 Women's World Championships were
held yesterday in Lake Placid, NY.

USA 6 SWITZERLAND 0
Gretchen Ulion scored a pair of goals for the Americans. But the story was
Swiss goalie Patrica Sautter. She stood on her head stopping 70 of 76 US
shots. In fact, she kept the Yanks scoreless until more than 33 minutes into
the game. Erin Whitten was in net for the US. The Americans outshot the Swiss
by a staggering count of 76-5.

CANADA 7 CHINA 1
Seven different Canadians scored while Manon Rheaume turned aside 12 shots.

SWEDEN 3 NORWAY 1
FINLAND 17 GERMANY 1
