Wow, that sounds pretty harsh.  It seems like they're penalizing the
guy for not swallowing his whistle or calling matching minors in the
third period of a tied game.  Given the usual fan complaints that
officials ought to call the same game in the third as in the first,
penalizing an official for doing so doesn't send a good message.
OTOH, I see the argument that the assistant refs should call the game
the same way as the head ref, even if he doesn't agree with that
style.  One question about the Saturday night call, which the AR
shouldn't have called because the ref saw the incident as well: can't
the head ref overrule the assistant in that case?
