Dear TRIO Colleagues:

Tuesday evening, TRIO Champion Tom Cole (R-OK) led a bipartisan coalition<http://t.congressweb.com/l/?QWTVOTJGSDIWGQY> that included TRIO Caucus Co-Chair and Alumna Gwen Moore (D-WI) in speaking out against the “Jason Lewis CTE Amendment,” which proposes to take $60 million in funding from TRIO (and $10 million from GEAR UP) and move it into career and technical education programs. Even though it was determined that there were more “NAY” than “YAY” voice votes against the Amendment, Rep. Lewis requested a “recorded vote.” That means that the entire Membership of the House of Representatives will vote individually on this Amendment when they convene tomorrow afternoon.

You MUST Call Your House Representative FIRST Thing on Wednesday Morning!

  1. Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 225-3121 and give the operator your zip code.

  1. Tell the staff member who answers the phone: “My name is _____ and I am a resident of ______ and I want Representative _________________ to vote ‘NO!’ on the Jason Lewis CTE Amendment to H.R. 3354.”

  1. Hang up and nudge three of your friends in TRIO to do the same thing.

Together we will defeat this threat and expand higher education access and opportunity for low-income, first-generation students everywhere!

Council for Opportunity in Education
