I am sorry to have missed the MEEOA Conference this year. I wasn't able to
reach out to members about participating in Fair Share in support of the
Council for Opportunity in Education (COE). For those of you who are new to
TRIO/GearUP I have attached a brief on what COE is and what it has
accomplished over the years. Along with 2016 - year in review of COE's
accomplishments. COE needs support from programs and from membership.
Please consider giving at a level you can afford. Please know that every
dollar counts and benefits all or programs and students.

COE works to support TRIO through

   -

Needed Program Improvement and Development for more than 3,000 college
   access and success programs nationwide.

January 2016 – COE kicked off a yearlong celebration of its 35th anniversary
of advocating for low-income, first-generation students and students with
disabilities. As a result of vigorous advocacy by COE and the TRIO
community, during 2016 TRIO programs were able to serve approximately
33,000 additional students.

Communities of Practice There are several ways to connect with college
access and success professionals throughout our network. Information about
COE-sponsored opportunities for professional development and growth for
statewide college opportunity program professionals is available here
<http://www.coenet.org/state_leadership.shtml>. To learn more about
professional associations organized in your region of the country click here
<http://www.coenet.org/affiliates.shtml>. Additionally, COE maintains
several Communities of Practice <http://community.coenet.us/home> that
allow college access and success practitioners to share best practices and
cultivate new ideas. To join any of these communities, which are discussed
in more detail below, click here <http://community.coenet.us/home>.

   -

Research and policy analysis through the Pell Institute for the Study of
Opportunity in Higher Education to encourage policymakers, educators,
and the public to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for
low-income, first- generation students and students with disabilities.

*April 2016 – COE’s research arm, the Pell Institute for the Study of
Opportunity in Higher Education, released its third edition of the
Indicators of Higher Education Equity in the United States at the National
Press Club. This report received widespread coverage in publications such
as The Atlantic, Forbes, Politico, Inside Higher Ed, and the Christian
Science Monitor**.*

   -

Advocacy for federally programs critical to college access and success
including TRIO, GEAR UP, Pell Grants, and other college access and success
   programs that assist

   low-income and first-generation students.

March 2016 – COE hosted its 36th Annual Policy Seminar in Washington, DC,
drawing its largest crowd in recent years.

   -

Professional Development for college access and success
professionals—through COE’s Annual Conference, seminars, workshops, video
conferences, webinars, and other web-based idea exchanges.

February 2016 – COE launched a new professional development program called
“Hit the Ground Running” for college access and success professionals. This
