I am forwarding this message from Alison Dibble:
Rick, would you please put a request up on JBS-link on behalf of Dr.
Leo Bruederle of Univ. Colorado, Denver? He urgently needs material of
Carex cryptolepis for a population genetics study and asked Alison
Dibble to circulate his request.
Here is more info.
Leo was in Maine earlier this year looking for populations of Carex
cryptolepis for some population genetics work that he is
undertaking. Unfortunately, he had no luck finding it in the northwest
corner of the state recentlyl.
Whole intact culms with inflorescences could be collected. Culms from
25-50
distinct individuals would be ideal; depending on the density of
population,
Leo tries to collect from individuals that are 1-2 meters apart. As
long
as the
culms are intact, the plants can be wrapped in moist paper towel and
stored
in a ziploc bag under refrigeration.
As far as shipping, FedEX would be great -- Leo can reimburse. Dry ice
isn't
necessary, as they won't be in transit very long. He'll be checking
e-mail periodically, but won't be back in Denver until 30 June; any
collections could be shipped at that point -- again, they should be
kept
refrigerated as described above.
At the end of June, please send material (that has been kept
refrigerated)
directly to:
