It is my understanding the Number 1 seed actually gets to choose if it
wants to play the first or second game, so generally they choose to
play first and get the extra 3 hours of rest time.

Maine has often been 2nd or 3rd seed, so that is how they end up in the
night so often.

Also, Hockey East reseeds for the FleetCenter.  So #1 plays the lowest
remaining seed, and so on.
