PROVIDENCE HOCKEY’S JON DISALVATORE NAMED
FINALIST FOR THE WALTER BROWN AWARD

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men’s ice hockey junior forward Jon
DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) was named one of 12 finalists for the
50th Walter Brown Award, given annually to top American-born Division I
college hockey player in New England. DiSalvatore is one of eight players
named from HOCKEY EAST schools.

DiSalvatore is the Friars’ leading scorer this season and ranks third in
the HOCKEY EAST in overall scoring with 14 goals and a career-high 23
assists for 37 points in 31 games. DiSalvatore has scored four power-play
goals and has added two shorthanded scores. He has led PC to a 13-14-4
overall record and a 8-9-1 mark in HOCKEY EAST play.

DiSalvatore joins Boston College sophomores Tony Voce and Ben Eaves,
Northeastern’s Jim Fahey and Mike Ryan, UNH’s Sean Collins, BU’s Mike
Pandolfo and Maine’s Mike Morrison as HOCKEY EAST players chosen as
finalists for the Walter Brown Award. Harvard’s Peter Capouch, Yale’s Dan
Lombard, Dartmouth’s Mike Maturo and Holy Cross’ Pat Rissmiller round out
the finalists.

Four Providence College men’s ice hockey players have earned the Walter
Brown Award in the 50-year history of the award, with the last being Mike
Omicioli of West Warwick, R.I., who shared the honor in 1999 with Boston
College’s Mike Mottau. Current PC Volunteer Coach Rob Gaudreau won the
award in 1992 as a senior, Tim Army won the award in 1985 and Ron Wilson
was the first Friar to win the award when he was honored in 1975.

The 2002 Walter Brown Award will be presented at the New England Hockey
Writers’ Dinner on April 10 in Saugus, Mass.
