PROVIDENCE’S 2001-02 MEN’S HOCKEY SCHEDULE RELEASED

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 2001-02 Providence College men’s hockey schedule was
announced today. The Friars, who finished the 2000-01 season with an
overall record of 22-13-5 and a conference mark of 13-8-3 for a
second-place finish in the HOCKEY EAST standings, will play 24 contests
against the remaining eight (Boston College, Boston University, Maine,
UMass-Amherst, UMass-Lowell, Merrimack, New Hampshire and Northeastern)
HOCKEY EAST Association members. Of those 24 league games, PC will play
half of those games at home at Schneider Arena.
        The Friars open their 2001-02 season with an exhibition contest at
Schneider Arena against Western Ontario on October 6. Game time is 7:00
p.m. and admission to see the Friars is free. PC opens the regular season
at the Maverick Stampede in Omaha, Nebraska where the Friars will face the
University of Michigan at the Omaha Civic Center on October 12. The second
day of the Maverick Stampede will have the Friars face the winner of
Nebraska-Omaha and Minnesota.
        The Friars home opener is Friday, October 19 against Sacred Heart
University and then PC opens conference play a week later on Friday,
October 26 at UMass-Lowell. This year’s annual Mayor’s Cup against Brown
will be played at Providence Schneider Arena on Tuesday, January 22 at 7:00
p.m.
        In addition to Sacred Heart, other home non-conference games are against
St. Lawrence on November 23, Clarkson on November 24, Quinnipiac on
December 7, Connecticut on January 18 and St. Cloud State on January 19.
        Tickets for all home games can be purchased Monday through Friday from
8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the PC Ticket Office in Alumni Hall or by calling
(401) 865-GO PC.
