Just an FYI,
The Big Red nickname is derived from a live bear named "Big Red" in the
1920's or 30's. If my memory serves me, the bear was "retired" after an
incident with the bulldog in New Haven at a football game. How much of my
memory is correct vs. legend is up for grabs, but I know I am right about the
name of the bear. This is why many Cornell logos include a bear.
