Conference Schedule opens Friday in Amherst and Lowell
(Download Weekly Release in PDF Format)

WAKEFIELD, MA – Nearly echoing one of the most successful weekends of last
season, the nine Hockey East schools combined for a dominating 12-1-1
record against non-conference opponents last weekend. The run was just one
victory short of the impressive 13-1-1 precedent set by Hockey East over
Thanksgiving weekend of 1999.

The highlight reel rolled on in every game for Hockey East, starting Friday
night in Providence where senior netminder Boyd Ballard calmly turned aside
all 30 shots he faced in the Friars’ season opener against Miami-Ohio.
Tandem partner Nolan Schaefer was similarly impressive against Lake
Superior State on Saturday, stopping 26 of 27 shots in a 5-1 win.
Providence’s special teams enjoyed a field day against their guests, going
6-for-16 on the power play and 16-for-17 on the penalty kill led by
Defensive Player of the Week Matt Libby. The senior defender scored twice
and added one assist. Hosting the same opponents, New Hampshire also
collected a pair of victories, 4-3 over Lake Superior State and 7-2 over
Miami.

In one of the more impressive results of the weekend, UMass-Lowell matched
visiting RPI goal-for-goal and ended up on top by a 4-3 final. Player of
the Week Yorick Treille scored twice for the victorious River Hawks.

Continuing an extended road trip, Boston College eked out two slim 3-2 wins
at Denver to improve its perfect record to 4-0-0.

An 8-2 final over St. Lawrence iced the Black Bear Hockey Classic title for
host UMaine. Sophomore Tom Reimann was named MVP for a three-goal weekend.

At UMass-Amherst, the Minutemen found the net twice in the final 1:35 with
goaltender Markus Helanen pulled to come back from a 4-2 deficit and earn a
4-4 tie against No. 12 ranked Colgate. Toni Soderholm set up both late goals.

In other action, Merrimack notched back-to-back wins over Connecticut.
Boston University, paced by the steady play of junior stopper Jason Tapp,
collected a 3-1 win over Vermont. At Notre Dame, Northeastern rebounded
from a 6-4 loss on Friday with a 5-3 win in Saturday’s rematch.
