SEVEN FRIARS NAMED TO
HOCKEY EAST ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on June 29 that seven Providence
College hockey players were named to the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team. It
marks the third consecutive season PC has placed seven or more
student-athletes on the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team. To qualify for the
HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must achieve at least a
3.0 grade point average in each of the two semesters which he played hockey
in 1999-2000.
The seven PC players named to the team were junior Boyd Ballard (Weyburn,
Saskatchewan), junior Cole Gendreau (Bismarck, N.D.), senior Dave Gunderson
(Duluth, Minn.), junior Jay Leach (Altamont, N.Y.), junior Adam Lee
(Brampton, Ontario), junior Matt Libby (Saco, Maine) and junior J.J.
Picinic (Fort Lee, N.J.).
In addition to being named to the All-Academic Team, Gunderson was one of
only three players in the league to earn HOCKEY EAST Distinguished Scholar
accolades. To earn a Distinguished Scholar honor, a player must be named
to the All-Academic Team each of the four seasons of his collegiate career.
Gunderson is the second HOCKEY EAST Distinguished Scholar ever at
Providence College.
