Welcome to the club, Roman! I just added you to our Google Group since it's more current than this listserve. That's also how we invite folks to our monthly gatherings and trainings, so you might see them pop up on your calendar now.
If I can do anything to help you adjust to tech integrator life, please let me know. I work in grades 6-12, but am always happy to support others in any way I can. :)
My name is Roman, I am the new Technology Integrator for RSU1. I am wondering if there are any plans for a midcoast Maine meet-up. I would relish the opportunity to meet others who share my role and make connections. If no plans exist, would others be interested in joining if we were to host here at Morse High School?
While the online registration for ACTEM is closed, it's not too late to just walk in and register (and pay or promise to pay, of course) on site. Also, we'd welcome ACTEM educators to come to the party Thursday night at 6pm, right at the conference center if you are in the area. Hotel rooms (cheap) are still available!

I am sharing a request for middle- and high-school classrooms to play-test an online game about misinformation:
We have a little request to help with the testing of a Misinformation/ Disinformation game called Agents of Influence. In the past year we’ve come a long way - while we initially had no expertise, no traction and no money we have managed to accomplish a lot. In the last year, we successfully conducted a successful Kickstarted campaign <https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/altereainc/agents-of-influence-cyber-danger>, got partnerships from several school districts to pilot the game, have research collaborations with Universities including Stanford and MIT and have won several awards
ACTEM is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Vermont & New Hampshire again in 2022-23 for the *Seesaw Licensing Purchasing Consortia* . This consortia purchasing will enable schools/districts in all three states to increase the total number of licenses purchased so we are able to get the best pricing for all.
*You’re invited to Big Deal Media’s inaugural webinar, “Making the Most of Ed Tech: Smart School-Tested Strategies That Make a Difference.” Sponsored by Logitech, the webinar will take place on May 18th at 4:00 PM ET. In the webinar you’ll learn:*
- *Creative ways to personalize learning in virtual, hybrid and in-person classrooms* - *How to connect students with unique career pathway experiences and virtual internships* - *Expansion of global exchange program possibilities, and* - *Specific school-tested strategies that you can use immediately*

Greetings- A group of students just brought the following question to my attention…
Our students iPads and Google Drive/Classroom
They have a Google Doc to submit to their teacher. They add a photo from their iPad Camera roll to the Google Doc. When they submit the document, or even look at the document later, it is blank, like there is no photo there. Sometimes it gives them an exclamation point in a black triangle.

When I’ve had a co-worker without the alternative host option, they haven’t been brought into the paid version yet, they’re still in the basic for whatever reason. Once they become noted as a paid subscriber the option has showed up.
That’s just my experience.

Many teachers who shifted to emergency remote instruction this past spring were muttering these words as they attempted to connect with their students virtually.
UNE Online has been teaching remotely for over ten years and experience has taught us that online education is an art with proven techniques that lead to high quality learning experience for online students. Just as veteran educators continually add to their bag of tricks, online teachers can do the same.
Hi, all. We at Mt. Ararat HS had a DJI Phantom 3 drone that we were using for documenting the progress of the construction of our new high school. Key word HAD. It crashed in October leaving most of it totaled and unable to fly. We have replaced it with a new model. Before it goes to the universal waste pile, we do have three batteries, charger, the remote, and an extra set of propellers that can not be used with the new drone. So, if you have a Phantom 3 drone and could use the extra batteries, charger, remote,

Hi Sarah, I've used the linked template below in years past however now that I'm teaching and coaching I'll be under the teacher PEPG evaluation protocol.
Template - Professional Goals <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IH2_bP0bCrodGiILiYKvaGJvDj2ayYH3qmiflKgd_Is/edit?usp=sharing>
I agree with Geoff too that we integrators end up in a strange place in between teacher and coach.
I hope you can find the template useful. Hope you are well and staying sane. Best, Abby
I get observed every so often but I don’t think I’ve ever been evaluated. I’ve always had a hard time even getting administrators to come in and observe me in lessons (I had one formal, documented observation in my first 7 years combined). Perceived lack of knowledge can be a really big barrier, even though that’s less of the point in what you’re supposed to be evaluating.
I'm curious about your performance evaluation requirements. Are you in process with classroom teachers or is there a more relevant set of criteria that you have to document/meet?
Is anyone using something that feels relevant, helps you to reflect, and set goals for improvement?
If so, I'd be grateful to see it (blank of course).
Hi all, We have our Homecoming/Spirit Week coming up in early November. We'd like to do a local trivia activity that happens simultaneously in all classrooms at a specified time. Kahoot seems the best option. Is there a better option I should be aware of?
Any tips or hints if you've done this before? Thanks!
We are also using PTCFast, but what we are going to try is posting the Meet link where the teacher's room number unusually goes. That way the link is attached to the teacher in the conference registration email that gets kicked to parents (though we will also have a document backup).
We were just playing around with using breakout rooms in Google Meet so teachers can send one link to all parents. This worked for the most part. We just had anonymous users allowed this week. If an anonymous user joins a Google Meet they can not be placed in a breakout room.
Our thought is to have the teacher connect to the Meet with their laptop and iPad. The iPad will screen share (microphone muted) a slide stating they are in a meeting with another parent and to sit tight. That may not be necessary since the next parent will
We are going to have all the teachers in a google doc and email it out to all the parents. They will sign up for a time via PTCFast then when it is conference time - go to the doc, find the teacher and click on the zoom link . The teachers will all have their waiting rooms on with a message. It will be an experiment having obviously never done it this way before.
I think this is where having Class Dojo and only one primary teacher makes life easy for the parents. I am not sure how you could do this!

We are sending out individual meet links to each parent/student through Google Calendar. So the teacher gets a list of conferences booked in Synergy. Then they manually create the Google Calendar events on their side with the email addresses and the student's account invited to the event.
While I am at it, you might want to join the Google Group for tech integrators and send your message through there as well. We started it up last year to replace this listserv. More information about how to join can be found on the ACTEM webpage here: http://www.actem.org/Tech-Integrators
Greetings- We’re thinking about our Parent/Teacher conferences via Zoom this year and the best ways to share a link.
I think using the Personal Meeting ID will simplify it for teachers, but how to get the links in an accessible place for parents without posting on the web…. (We’ve already been Zoom bombed once…)

Hi, all. It used to be that one could pause a screen recording in Quick Time by clicking the pause icon that would appear in to top toolbar, and then click it again to resume recording when ready. In Mojave, you could tap the esc key to bring up a control window, and then tap the alt key and it would display the pause button. That does not seem to exist anymore with the version of QuickTime in Catalina. Does anyone know a workaround so that one can pause a screen recording and then resume recording in the same video?

We've had a district Pear Deck subscription for quite a few years now. Their student data privacy policy is fine and they have signed the Maine Student Privacy Alliance exhibit E (which means that any Maine district can latch on to their agreement).
We've had great experiences with Pear Deck and the Chrome ad-on/extension makes it that much easier for teachers to use in the classroom (or remotely).
Looking seriously at a Pear Deck subscription for teachers. I'm hearing vague rumors that districts won't allow it. Security concerns, maybe? Anyone in this group have experience with that platform?
I'm comparing Nearpod and Pear Deck and thinking Pear Deck has less of a learning curve and is friendlier for kids in a wider age range.

Greetings- Our yearbook advisor has come up with an idea to have teachers digitally sign the yearbook and write notes to the class of 2020. We’ll come up with a page (8.5x11-ish) and they’ll put one in every (senior?) yearbook when they arrive.

I turned off the notifications in the stream. I found that the kids were operating from that and not even going to the Classwork page. Since the notifications are turned off I can then use it as a way to have a discussion. I guess you could also set up a question and then make sure the box is checked that says they can respond to each other. What am I missing? I distinctly remember students being able to make comments in some application within Google Classroom where others could see it and respond. We're just starting our planning. These are my thoughts at this point but hopefully will get further worked out and refined as we prepare for a potential long term school closure.
Our hope is to utilize SeeSaw in grades K-4 and Google Classroom in grades 5-12. We'll expect that teachers communicate with students and parents regarding lessons, assignments and assessments. We'd expect all teachers to offer daily "office hours" to support students. Students in grades 7-12 take their devices home so that will be fine. We're banking on students having access to some device to get their school work (smart

South Portland will be host to a FREE two day workshop this January centered around how your district can plan to bring equitable access to computer science for all students. This event is called SCRIPT and is a product of CSforAll. To date ten Maine districts have participated. Our goal is to add at least another five districts to the group. The workshop is applicable to all school districts, regardless of their experience with computer science. Personally I am no computer science expert, and reached out to a friend at CSforAll who told me about this program and asked us

The site content is pretty set up, they need help navigating their plugins and setting up their member directory.
If anyone knows someone with the knowledge of Wordpress and looking for some freelancing this summer, they would be grateful. I was told they do have money to pay someone, so it's not volunteer work.
I hope you are all enjoying the start of what promises to be a lovely weekend. I'm hoping that you will take some time over the next few weeks (by June 17th) to:

I will use the EverFi online resources and group discussions/ reflection to build common understandings and model/practice open communication.

For the past six years, the Technology and Learning Survey has served as a useful tool for SAUs to understand how technology influences teaching and learning and how to focus on improving the technology environments that provide meaningful learning experiences. The Department will use the data collected over these years to inform the next steps for the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) and has determined that as of July 1, 2019, the Department will not be renewing our contract with BrightBytes for the Technology and Learning Survey. Schools wishing to maintain their data dashboard beyond June 30, 2019, and/or individually
Bucksport Middle School will host the final Learning Design Lab of the year! Come visit the school on Wednesday June 5th to learn from students and educators about the ways they've integrated technology into their learning spaces.
The Learning Design Lab will focus on technologies used for project-based learning. Participants will learn from students and teachers in four different classes, spanning grades 5-8.
1. Podcast “Their Own Devices” is a great resource. Moderators are an IT security expert and a physician who specializes with teens. They are married to each other, have a teen son, and interview all sorts of professionals, parents, and kids. They toss around all sorts of deep subjects related to teens and tech use, common fears, unanswered questions, and so on.
I am working with a student at Waynflete to do some research on the challenges of balancing positive technology use with the drawbacks of distraction, multi-tasking, and off-task work. Whether or not specific to the school context:
1. I would very much appreciate any resources you have found helpful that address this tension between positive and negative tech impacts.
With another school year is coming to a close, it's not too early to set your sights on next year. The Leveraging Learning Planning Team invites you to join us in a celebration of iPad in the elementary classroom at our annual Leveraging Learning: iPad in the Elementary Classroom conference. This year's theme, Igniting Creativity, has inspired us to change things up a bit! Thursday will begin with Falmouth High School student John Wahlig sharing his story of how technology has impacted his life and is helping to shape his future. Friday kicks off with Apple Distinguished Educator and author
I found openbadges.org, which seems to be about sharing badges so they can be seen outside the issuing source. I’m also looking into bloomboard.com and badgr (which has a free option…)
Much appreciated – I think this could help our fall new staff training!

Google recently said they’re going to sever any Brand accounts connected to educational accounts.
They don’t seem to be giving any room for Educational Brands.
Attached to my account is the Oceanside High School “brand” that oversees the school You Tube Channel and the Oceanside High School page/recommendations/ratings/etc that people get when they click on OHS on a map.
I did some research for a learner-focused badging system earlier this school year, and Badgr <https://badgr.com/> is my current favorite. Alludo is nice, but the price point requires some commitment.
Hi Esther, Bloomboard is a badging platform https://bloomboard.com/
I have just started scratching the surface of digital badging and I'm impressed with Bloomboards progress.
Additionally there is a local effort, geared toward students and summer/out of school learning opportunities called Maine State of Learning. They may be open to talking about how to support teachers https://www.mainestateoflearning.org/about/
Best, Abby

Hi all- I’m researching the idea of Digital Badging as a way to help our new teachers to our district navigate through all the new teacher training, understand how our various digital systems work, and give them a list of what they don’t know they don’t know so they can use it.
*ACTEM Business Meeting* May 13, 2019 • 9:30 AM - Noon Cross Office Building • Augusta, ME
Just a quick reminder that the final ACTEM Business meeting of this school year will be held next Monday, May 13th in the Cross Office Building (room 103), Augusta, ME. At this meeting we will be electing new officers for the next few years and recognizing our current outgoing leaders.
We are looking at using Apple Pencil + iPad Air/Pro + Apple TV as a potential alternative to IWB setups. Anyone doing this and have favorite apps and workflows to share? Explain Everything and EduCreations are go-tos for sure, and there are several other whiteboard apps that all do essentially the same thing. Wondering if there are others I don't know about.
In just a few short weeks, 1000+ students and educators will be creating and problem-solving with technology at the 16th Annual MLTI Student Conference. This year’s conference will be held on Thursday, May 23rd at the University of Maine in Orono and will feature 100+ students and educators who are leading sessions.
Earlier this year, the Department hosted a blended learning opportunity designed to help grow skills and knowledge related to Digital Citizenship. We want to congratulate the top finishers in our DigCit4ME Challenge!
We'll also be hosting a webinar where educators can learn more about blended, gamified, choice-based learning design from the folks who developed the platform (Alludo Learning) and from the DOE staff who designed the challenge.

You can use the NEO Contact Search<https://neo.maine.gov/doe/neo/SuperSearch/Home/Index> to achieve some of your first ask by clicking on “Non-teaching position”, then leaving the organization box to say “Select All”, selecting “Director of Technology” and/or “Technology Integration Coordinators” – it will generate a list that you can send to Excel. I think you would have to download the other positions you mentioned and cross reference to know if folks wore multiple hats – sorry!

Hello! Best wishes to you all. We appreciate all that you do.
Does anyone have a data set for Maine on whether schools have full-time technology directors (instead of wearing multiple hats such as business director and tech director) and those systems/schools having technology integrators (or job coaches as some schools are calling them now)?

Thanks for the help, everyone. We are mainly looking at solutions at the elementary and middle levels at the moment. I will email folks privately to connect with the recommended schools.
We have a Promethean solution, enhanced w audio from Lightspeed. We hope to expand it and I think it’s a great solution and would welcome anyone interested in seeing what’s happening in SoPo

Andrea Cole, Sanford High School, was great at showing us the Promethean. They are using it in all their classrooms at their newly built school.

RSU 2 integrators are interested in seeing effective utilization of Promethean systems. We would love to learn from integrators and/or teachers who can demonstrate the magic they're working with these interactive boards. Can any of you recommend someone with whom we might connect?

Hello all! It feels nice to reconnect with you all and confirm my belief that schools need technology integrators. Has the name morphed in job coach or something else?
I am supporting community members in another district in their pursuit to better support their technology expenditures.
If you have any other documents or advice, please share them.
