I suspect that the 1997 pre-season poll was simply included in error.
(The ECAC teams are certainly in the positions they held for that
poll, and the others look reasonable for '97 as well.)
 
Note that USCHO's "New Millennium" overhaul (nearly 15 months early)
is still 5 days away, so perhaps that message was meant to go out next
week.
