Selection for the NCAA tournament and the top position seedings are all done by the numbers (plus one other important rule). Despite the UNH/UNH/BC games, Maine continues to be the 2nd ranking PWR team in the East, with neither BC nor Clarksom (apparently) able to catch us. The important rule is that any team that wins their regular season *and* tournament gets an automatic bye. UNH is guaranteed a bye by virtue of their top (in the East) ranking and regular season HEA win. Clarkson won the ECAC regular season and plays tonight for the ECAC Championship. Should Clarkson win, UNH and Clarkson would get the byes and Maine would be pushed to a #3 seed, playing the #6 seed this coming Friday in Worcester. BC will probably get the #4 seed and play #5. The Friday winners will play the bye teams Saturday, with the winners going to the Frozen Four in Anaheim the following week. For what it's worth, neither Clarkson nor BC can catch Maine in the PWR. Out West, there are a number of interesting scenarios. Most important for the Western Regional gate receipts is that Michigan must win tonight (CCHA Championship) against Northern Michigan to make it to the NCAA's. All will be known after the 12:30 EST Selection Show tomorrow on ESPN2. cheers, wayne Wayne T. Smith [log in to unmask] Old Town Landing Co-owner of the College Hockey lists - Hockey-L and Hockey3
