January 22 1999 Start Time: 7:35 p.m. End Time: 10:04 p.m. Michigan Technological University vs. Attendance: 6,727 Colorado College Scoring by Period Penalties Power Plays Overall Records (WCHA) MTU 1-1-0 - 2 MTU 6 for 23 MTU 1 of 3 MTU 7-15-1 (7-10-0) CC 1-2-0 - 3 CC 8 for 27 CC 0 of 1 CC 16- 8-1 (11-6-0) Shots on Goal by Period Saves by Period (with Minutes Played) MTU 9- 5- 8 - 22 David Weninger(MTU) 8-11-11 - 30 (60:00) CC 9-13-11 - 33 Jeff Sanger (CC) 8- 4- 8 - 20 (60:00) Head Referee: Buzz Christensen Assistant Referees: Steven Fraser, Jay Rockenback the names are so long they can't fit on one line Scoring Penalties................................................Time FIRST PERIOD P1-MTU Landon Boyko (2-slashing).........................2:48 let's call an early one to show we're in control and still have a pulse in the old body P2-CCJustin Morrison (2-interference)....................3:48 and let's even it up G1-MTU PAUL CABANA 9 (Devin Hartnell 7)..................................5:48 buzzy initially waved this one off and reversed himself after talking to the goal judge. I watched the replay on tv and couldn't tell what the issue was G2-CC CAM KRYWAY 4 (Dan Peters 12, Jon Austin 16).......................10:21 good transition and Kam launched it frpm the top of the left circle. weninger didn't quite get enough of it as it came out the other side of the five hole and dribbled agonizingly slowly over the line P3-CC Mike Stuart (2-slashing)...........................18:03 no make up call possible here as the end of the period arrived and we had those extra 15 minutes for the short term memory issues to kick in. SECOND PERIOD G3-CC AARON KARPAN 5 (Ian Petersen 3, Trent Clark 5).....................2:14 there was a scramble out front and it appeared karps was facing away from the net and launched a blind backwards swipe that just snuck between weninger's pad and the right post P4-MTU Devin Hartnell (5-fighting).......................3:44 P5-MTU Devin Hartnell (10-game disqualification).........3:44 P6-MTU Brad Mueller (2-roughing).........................3:44 P7-MTU Brad Mueller (2-roughing).........................3:44 P8-CC Paul Manning (5-fighting)..........................3:44 P9-CC Paul Manning (10-game disqualification)............3:44 P10-CC Chris Hartsburg (2-roughing)......................3:44 P11-CC Chris Hartsburg (2-roughing)......................3:44 the scuttlebut is that manning took exception to a hit hartnell made on (i believe) jon austin (which the referees and assistant referees also missed) and a spirited set of fisticuffs ensued. The good news is that devin Hartnel now has the opportunity for some quality time with his older brother chad (who used to play for CC) during tomorrow's game. The bad news is that paul mannings family won't see him play tomorrow. G4-CCJESSE HEEREMA 9 (Brian Swanson 27, Paul Johnson 3)..................7:19 point blank on a feed from behind the net by brian. P12-CC Darren Clark (2-slashing)........................12:55 yeah, right G5-MTU BRAD PATTERSON 1 (Jim Kotajarvi 2)......................PPG......13:12 the second assist belongs to a CC player who fumbled behind the net, letting the disk come out in front THIRD PERIOD P13-MTU Adrian Fure (2-high sticking)....................5:51 P14-CC Aaron Karpan (2-interference).....................5:51 the buzzster repeats his minnesota trick of calling two separate infractions on the same stoppage. They certainly arose from different incidents. CC had gotten an extra skater on the ice for sanger and was working the puck in the tech zone when buzzy stopped play. CC had a couple of point blank misses, one about 9 minutes in and the other pretty close to the two minute warning. They bottled tech up so much that tech couldn't get weninger off for an extra skater This marks CC's first win at home in the new arena in the month of January.
