You know, everyone is missing a point here.  If a school elects to move up
to Div I from II or III and does nothing much else, yes they will be the
weak sisters.  But, now being Div I, if they want to, they can build a
better recruiting base and in a few years, that small, weak team is suddenly
competitive.
 
Consider Colorado College - a very small school by Div I standards, and a
weak sister in the WCHA for a long time - but look at them the last few
years.  I say if a school wants to move up and put the money into their
program, more power to them.  What we really need is at least one more Div I
conference to handle the expansion.  And don't smugly assume that the MAAC
wont field some pretty good teams in a few years, either.
