Jim Love posted a very interesting thread on the parallels between college lacrosse and college hockey. It is as legitimate as any other off-season topic. A couple of thoughts occurred to me. Many of the colleges who are so good at lacrosse are also very selective academically. A lot of the good lacrosse players are developed at very good high schools and prep schools. The word affluent comes to mind in many cases. I think a lot of these schools naturally steer their graduates to the very selective colleges. This makes more naturally for lacrosse dynasties than in hockey where the talent is a lot more diffuse in its development stages. It would also be interesting to know if there are many Canadians playing US lacrosse. Certainly there is nothing (in lacrosse) like the Junior A/B systems which college hockey coaches are increasingly expecting a year or two of experience in before a S/A moves up to the college level. On another topic, I was struck by the fact that timing is almost everything in life. I chuckled at the question about automatic lacrosse/hockey bids and growing the sport. "Can you say MAAC??" Why yes, I believe we can! It comes out like: "Todd Krygier", UConn alumnus, who got the OT game-winner night before last for the Cap's against Buffalo!! As I said, timing is everything:-):-) -- Dick Tuthill HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
