It did happen in 1992, the year of the All-West Final Four.  That was the
year all the eastern teams sat out an extra week because of the timing
of HockeyFest and then got bounced in their first games.
 
Other than that, no more than one non-bye team had ever advanced in a single
year.
 
In fact, in the 10 years since a 12-team draw was introduced in 1988, only
8 of 80 non-bye teams advanced.
 
Until this year, of course.
